Abstract: The problem of spurious solutions due to the violation of the divergence equations - which are the Gauss law and/or the divB=0 constraint - in computational electromagnetics is avoided by solving a modified Maxwell system that takes these constraints directly into account. The numerical simulation is then based on this constrained formulation of the underlying equations. In this paper we review the basic ideas of this approach and present results of numerical simulations for Maxwell-Vlasov and MHD equations.
