One of the major obstacles for the application of complex hydrides in mobile applications is the slow hydrogenation kinetics of the materials. Therefore, a number of attempts have been undertaken to develop both fast and cost-effective catalysts.

The contribution will give a short review on the state-of-the art in the literature. Furthermore, the results of recent attempts for a drastical cost reduction of Ti-based catalysts and the properties of new dopants for alanates will be presented.
